: This point was raised by Arthur Schopenhauer on the list so I thought it might be better putting it here. Considering that the main aim of Hunter is to portray normal people having to face up to the supernatural, do combat-orientated characters and posts suit this? Is it more interesting to see posts about finding weapons and killing monsters?

My two cents on the issue.

Posts about weapons and fighting tactics bore me. Most of the time I skim over them as I'm personaly not interested in them. Similarily, posts about killing monsters eventually get dull unless something interesting happens. And interesting does not mean 'bigger monsters'- when something happens that changes the character completely. I'm not against combat in posts- but I feel it doesn't help it much.

The obvious thing to remember here is that we all have different tastes and different styles. What is interesting to us affects how we write. I hate writing anything with combat in it because I quickly run out of things to say. I end up writing 'then I punched X zombie. Then I shot Y zombie' which is just as boring to write as it is to read. The only trouble is the list does come from a roleplay game- which are usually combat-orientated. Even my own gaming group has trouble moving away from the 'Shoot first, ask questions later' attitude they gained through D&D games.

But they are getting there.
