: Just a couple of things this newbie has noticed:

: 1. Why is this being addressed now? Supposedly during the school year this list is super-active... why not put it to the list now rather than those few of us subbed having all the say-so?

Heh. Mainly because that didn't even occur to me as an issue, and because it hadn't yet really been addressed at all (I got tired of waiting). BTW, your logic seems inverted on your last.

: I know I didn't know about this. What's wrong with at least for now making a citation in the FAQ about it (I'm sure somewhere it says something like not pissing in the pot... maybe add it there) and then going from there once the list gets back up to its more normal member count?

Actually I expect (from having done this many times before) that that solution is probably what will be the final outcome. Of course, the none of the FAQs (the big OOC FAQ, Fred's Guide, the essays at hunter-unity) address this issue at all, and they probably should; policy decisions need to be made before you get into trouble, not after.

: Sorry to bring point #1 back up, but really, fairness was mentioned in the on-list discussion on this topic and it just seems odd to me that we're doing it seemingly behind some people's backs.

As to that it certainly hadn't occurred to me. I don't feel that the case, as the results of the decision will be public (I assuming that the outcome will be incorporated into one of the FAQs at least). I also don't consider the volume drop an issue - the List isn't at peak traffic, I'll grant, but it's far, far, from silent. The people who are still on the List cover the eniter spectrum of poster, so I feel the vote's still representative.

'Course, all of that babble's just a fancy way of saying, "I don't think there's any harm done."

: I watched the stupid syndrome of the list (or it was called something like that to me on this board when I asked about it) and I'd just hate to see something like that again so soon, mightn't making some ruling like that just inspire another one of those escapades?

It might I suppose. Of course, the "stupidity" seems to run in cycles, and I think we're done with this season's. Also, most of the options I called out are ones people are (frankly) like to get stupid over when/if they occur in an actual story post. It's best to address them removed from that context, when everyone can still be rational about it, without accusations of "Twink!" "Fascist!" flying back and forth.
