>Underlying all of this is the problem is that the people *playing* Hunter are (for the most part) *not* the people the game is about - our peer groups and personal experiences aren't (for the most part) not directly corresponding to the realities of the game.
So, what you are saying, if I understand you correctly, is that none of us would be candidates for the imbuing?
(As for myself, I'd be inclined to agree with you about me. At least, I hope the Messengers would never Call someone like me, unless, of course, they *wanted* a Seeker of Ways.)
But...I dislike the implication that, according to H:tR, some humans are more human than other humans, and that this evaluation is made according to interest and profession. I did see, in the books, where it says that gamers aren't the people that Hunter is about, that we belong to some sort of fringe group that, by association, makes us inappropriate to save Humanity. I was not under the impression that the Messengers looked up one's job history and/or hobbies before choosing them. It was my understanding that the Messengers made their choices based on temperment, ie. choosing humans who would act in the face of the Afflicted. You are correct on one point; the rules do imply that the Messengers choose burger slingers and bag boys before navy seals.
Which, in my opinion, is stupid, in the extreme.
I however, apply this mistake in construction to the designers of the game themselves, who seem to have a very narrow view of what constitutes a human being.
>But for me, all of that is "normal" - it's plumbers, burger-flippers, and maids that are the "abnormal", brief intrusions into my life.
I have a more average life, I suppose. I don't know any spies or navy seals. I do know a carpenter. I know a printer. I know a landscaper. I know a model. I know a handful of artists. I know a teacher. I know several unemployed wanderers.
Each and every character I have ever brought into my story is based on a person I know or have known, even the monsters. Yes, I have more guys than girls. Yes, I have more queers than straights. Yes, my hunters color their hair and tattoo their skin.
Real people do these things. They do them all the time. If one doesn't think they do, one is leading an incredibly sheltered life.
And, I would hardly consider someone making me a burger at McDonald's to be an intrusion.
>I'd find it easier to play an ex-spy than a union carpenter, though being an ex-spy is a much *rarer* occupation than that of carpenter.
Then, I would suggest, with respect to you, that you do not live a normal life.
