I have to agree, particularly when the 'answers' as provided by WW are so unsatisfactory. Apocrypha was terribly self-indulgent.
My main problem with the way that WW presents Visionaries is that they all get along so well. I'd think there would be a more of a conflict between mystic thinkers and scientific ones. And social thinkers would be on another page entirely, and not really grouped with the other two. Unless they were all stoner-types, they all certainly would not get along. Anyone who's spent time in college should know that there are some schools of thought that look down on others. Historians think economists are full of crap, you know.
Visionaries should do a lot of observation. That being said, it sure sounds passive, but it wouldn't be. A demography of the imbued would be no easy feat, and an ethnography of the undead would involve a lot of risks. Trying to sneak in to steal texts (preferably journals, not the freaking Book of Nod) involves, to me, more risks than just walking up and shooting stuff.
The observations are then interpreted in light of that person's experiences, and the results published, on the list. Which, of course, serves as a very harsh version of the jury process.
The problem, of course, and where vision-twinking comes in, is when people do find the book of Nod, or figure out vampire society in about twenty minutes. (That one is in Inherit the Earth, another bad example.) Or, of course, claim that the Heralds gave them clear visions of what it's all about. Visions happen, but they're generally not all that clear, and the Heralds are not known for their clarity.
Or, at least, that's my take on Visionaries. I'm not even going to tackle Hermits or... that other tripe creed.

: I prefer vision too. but i think its the hardest one to play, and the easiest to mess up. Zeal, go fight, Mercy, go save. What do Vision hunters do?
: I wrestled with orph for a while. People who come out and say "anybody wonder why we are here?" irk me. Visionaries don't think that way. They are looking for patterns, for meaning, not something as simple as "42". I'd argue that a visionary presented with all the answers would be unsatisfied and still go out and look for themselves.
